Our Story

Doherty’s Irish Pub is a locally owned and independently operated restaurant established on the belief that great food and genuine hospitality never go out of style. What began as a small neighborhood pub has grown into a small family of restaurants focused on quality, community, and comfort.
The Doherty’s story started long before the name did. In 1997, Michael Doherty set out to bring a true sense of Irish culture and hospitality to the Triangle with Tir na nOg in downtown Raleigh. That spirit continued with Connolly’s Irish Pub in Cary, where neighbors quickly became regulars and community came first.
In 2012, the Cary pub was reintroduced under Michael’s name as Doherty’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, combining the easygoing familiarity of a local spot with the standards of a chef-driven kitchen. Today, Chef Scott Rees leads a menu that honors Irish roots while putting a fresh spin on American comfort favorites. We take just as much care in the kitchen as we do behind the bar, with scratch-made dishes, a welcoming atmosphere, and service that feels personal.
Though Irish heritage inspires us, it’s our local roots and hands-on approach that define who we are. Doherty’s is built and run by people who’ve worked their way up and stay close to the day-to-day, because that’s where the real heart of hospitality lives. We’re proud to be a true neighborhood pub: a place for family dinners, casual lunches, meeting up with friends, or catching the game. And no matter how we grow, we’ll always stay true to where it all began.
